Value

Lorenzo Caia

“The respect that something is believed to deserve; the importance, value or usefulness of something.”

This would be the definition of value from the time this word was born, but does it actually matter nowadays?

Value, value, value… I struggle to see it in people and you?

I love value, things done well, simple, but thought out, where you can perceive with just a glance that what we are observing has a history, a weight. When we perceive the value in something or even in someone, our reality changes, it intrigues us, it attracts us because we always want to know more. Instead, in the last few years I have seen very little value, very little indeed, hidden everything by the so-called profit, quantity before quality and in the so-called progress. I've noticed that everyone always has something to say, there's this race to see who says more things to the other and vice versa, but no one just listens sincerely to what the other has to communicate. For me, all of this translates into the absence of value because if you don't listen to anyone, but you just talk, there's no one who can perceive the value of the speaker, consequently everything becomes superficial and meaningless.

I think I'll do an article on listening because I've really noticed that few listen and not everyone even knows what it's like to listen.

Returning to value, what do you think it is? How do you perceive the value? Is it a consequence of the time you invest in something/someone or the respect you have for that thing/someone?

I know you have so much value and I can't wait to see it for myself.

To next week.
