I drafted this piece during a period when time felt like an adversary. The very act of rendering its mechanics visible (the weight of the pendulum, the cold precision of the gears) mirrors a choice we have faced since the passing of hours was first given physical shape. We look upon these rigid instruments and must decide whether to see a companion or a rival, caught in the quiet human desperation of wishing the moments to hurry past, or begging them to stand entirely still.

. To ensure the longevity of the lightfast pigments, I recommend framing under museum-grade glass with a UV filter.
